20/20/20 Fitness Class
Offered by Hitchcock Health Solutions, this class is sectioned into three twenty-minute segments of exercise. Focus is on warm-up and stretching, cardiovascular training and overall body strength. This fitness class if for ages 18 and up. The cost is $15 per month and non-resident fees apply. Health Solutions Members receive this class as part of their membership and therefore do not need to register at the Weeks Center. Baton Twirling
This monthly class, beginning July 8, involves learning the basic fundamentals of baton twirling. Participants will develop poise and coordination while having fun. Participants should wear comfortable clothing in class. In addition to instructional classes, participants may perform at various events as special entertainment (locally). Students will need to bring their own baton. See instructor first day of class for baton recommendations. The instructor is Latrise Simpson. Climbing Wall
The rock climbing wall is open for drop-in sessions on Tuesday and Friday evenings through October 2006. With help from our instructor you can climb beginner or advanced routes. Beginner climbers meet at 5:30 pm and advanced climber meet at 6:30 pm. Climbing is available for ages 3 and older and a parent or guardian must sign waiver for those under 18. The cost is $5 per person per drop-in session or $25 for a 5-session pass. Registration and payment must be made at the Weeks Center prior to coming ot the facility. The The wall can also be rented for special events. Rental fees vary. The Climbing Wall is loctaed at the Carolina Bay Nature Reserve. Call 803-642-7631 for more information. Dance Class
Take this monthly dance class and learn technical skills in ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop. In addition to instructional classes, participants will perform in dance recitals and may perform at various events as special entertainment (locally). The
dance instructor is Latrise Simpson The Kids Class is for 5 - 12 year olds and meets on saturdays from 1- 2 pm. The cost is $ 35 per month and non-resident fees apply. Fit 4 Ever
This is a light impact fitness class for anyone wanting an overall workout at a moderate pace. The class includes aerobics as well as resistance work with light weights and floor exercises, all set to fun, upbeat music. The cost is $ 30 for 12 tickets which can be used at any time and non-resident fees apply. Classes meet at the Weeks Center at 10 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Get Fit with Fun!
The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department will begin a new program to help overweight children regain physical fitness and learn basic nutrition. “Get Fit with Fun” will be instructed by Sabrina Hidlay, a certified Health Fitness Instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine. Sabrina also has a degree in physical education from the College of Charleston. This class will meet from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, Monday – Friday. The cost is $50 per two-week session. The first session will begin July 10 and the second session begins July 24. The third session is only a week and it will run August 7 – 11. The cost for this session will be $25. “Get Fit with Fun” targets those who feel they have a weight issue, however anyone is welcome to attend. Activities will include aerobic activities, simple lessons on exercise and nutrition, and outdoor games. The program is for children ages 5 – 12. Registration is taken at the Weeks Center front desk. Gymnastics
This class runs on a monthly basis and teaches boys and girls tumbling and balance beam skills. This class is great for first time gymnasts! The class is for kids, ages: 5 - 12 years. Jazzercise
Meets at the Smith-Hazel Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:15 – 6:15 pm. Students must be at least 16 years of age and the cost is $ 32 per month, $ 18 per month for college students (daily & weekly rates also available) and non-resident fees apply. Swinging Line Dance class, for ages 18 and older, are held at the Weeks Center on Tuesdays at 10 - 11 am. The cost is $ 30 for a book of 10 coupons, which may be used at any time and non-resident fees apply. Easy to learn line dances are taught to jazz, big band, country, and popular music. Lunchtime Fitness
Offered by Hitchcock Health Solutions, this is an exercise program that includes circuit training along with trim and toning classes. You will receive a combination of aerobic exercise along with moderate strength training. This fitness program is perfect for a mid-day workout! The cost is $25 per month and is for ages 18 and up and non-resident fees apply. Health Solutions Members receive this class as part of their membership and therefore do not need to register at the Weeks Center. The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program
The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department is offering a new program for seniors starting in January! The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is a unique physical activity program designed to encourage Medicare-eligible members to increase their physical activity. If you are a member of Humana then you may be eligible to participate for FREE! Muscular Strength and Range of Movement will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 – 9:50 a.m. Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Tai Chi for Seniors
Based on an ancient Chinese martial art, Tai Chi is a form of exercise that improves balance, relaxation and concentration. This class meets twice a week for six weeks. Dates are listed below in six week sessions. The class is for those ages 50 and older and the cost is $ 80 per person per session and non-resident fees apply. Tae Kwon Do
The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is taking registration for an introductory session of Tae Kwon Do. Learn basic strikes, blocks and kicks that are integral to this Martial Art. Students will also learn basic self-defense maneuvers. The instructor is Master Cheryl Fryer, 5th degree black belt. Classes will meet at the Weeks Center each Monday from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. for six weeks, beginning July 17th. Cost is $30 per person and is for ages 6 and up and non-resident fees apply. Tennis
The Weeks Tennis Center offers group lessons, private lessons, leagues, and tournaments for various skill levels. Lessons are available for children and adults. Services offered at the Pro Shop include stringing, racquets, clothing, and other equipment. Mark Calvert, the teaching professional, is certified by the United States Tennis Professional Association. Walking & Music Exercise Class
A total work out for muscle toning, strength and fun attend this class at the Smith-Hazel Center beginning on Monday, January 23, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. The class is for those ages 16 and up. In this gentle mind/body workout you will strengthen and tone your body, improve your balance and flexibility, and calm your mind.
